Private garden Sint Martens Latem

Private garden, Lanaken

This contemporary garden was created in the autumn of 2003.

The design was created by landscape architect Peter Wirtz Schoten-based on assignment from the company of Mr Erwin Janssen (Dolmans Landscaping Group).

The plot border uses a hedge element on the trunk of a Carpinus betulus ‘Fastigiata’ in the size 25-30. Roof sycamore Platanus acerifolia 35-40 have been placed at the entrance.

A conscious decision was made to use large trees and solitaires, shrubs and hedges to create a garden with an immediately mature look.

Munipalicity of Maasmechelen,

In a large-scale operation, the municipality of Maasmechelen replaced and added a great deal of plants. To achieve the desired effect rapidly, a large number of varieties with pruned trunks with a minimum size of 20-25 were planted.

The municipal council opted for quality and well developed low-maintenance trees. The crowns were already formed at the nursery. With this, Maasmechelen intends to be an example for other municipalities in Belgium and create a better balance between concrete and vegetation.

We supplied a number of trees for this project, including:

  • Liquidambar
  • styraciflua 'Worplesdon'
  • Tilia cordata 'Rancho'
  • Gleditsia triacanthos 'Skyline'
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • Prunus 'Pandora'
  • Prunus 'Spire'
  • Magnolia kobus
  • Malus 'John Downie'
  • Ostrya carpinifolia
  • Fagus sylvatica 'Black Swan'
  • Quercus robur
  • 'Fastigiata Van den Berk'

Private garden, Sint Martens Latem

Transforming an ordinary garden into a Garden of Eden is very time-consuming. More and more private individuals are deciding not to wait and to call on the assistance of a professional landscape gardener. This works wonderfully in combination with Van den Berk Nurseries. For example, this garden was created just two years ago.

The natural plants selected ensure that there is a wonderful contrast with the modern look of the house. A good example is the fantastic Parrotia persica at the entrance and the beautiful, solitary Acer paulmatum.

Uercus palustris of size 40-50 and with heights of 8 to 10 metres were also planted. The undergrowth consists of Rhododendron, Buxus and many other sizeable bushes. The trees are anchored below ground level in order create the impression that they have always been there. These trees were also transplanted regularly during their cultivation. This ensures that they continue to grow correctly in their new surroundings. Surroundings where they will remain for the rest of their live.

Leopoldsburg,

They now look magnificent, brightening the appearance of the once so sombre square all year round.

Leuven

For example, Platanus acerfolia (size 20/25) was planted at the Fonteinstraat in 1998. They have developed beautifully over the last five years.

New trees and shrubs were planted in the diestsevest district in 200/2001. We supplied the Acer platanoides 'Emerald Queen' trees, whit trunk circumferences in the category 30/35. More than 100 trees were planted as part of the redevelopment of the entire Stationsbuurt (Station District).

Plopsaland, De Panne

Because the site is close to the coast, suitable trees had to be chosen carefully. Despite the wind off the sea the choice was nevertheless made for a number of trees, including Pauwlonia, Metasequoia, Carpinus and Tilia tomentosa, that normally do not grow that weil under such conditions. Since planting, the new trees have adapted well to their environment.

The Pauwlonia is even doing exceptionally well. In 2001 a large open space was laid with Tilia cordata, size 40-50. The client found the whimsical shape of these trees exceptionally appealing. The large-size trees that Van den Berk supplied made the park look mature from the very start.
